“I consider that the honest telling of my life experience is the most authentic gift I have to offer.”

Caroline Jones, ABC broadcaster and author

“Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.

Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. It presupposes faith and love.

Absolutely unmixed attention is prayer.”

Simone Weil, Gravity and Grace

When I tell my story, it is a gift, “the greatest gift I have to offer”.

When I truly listen to the story of another, it is a gift, “the rarest and purest form of generosity”.

It is through the giving of these two gifts that we escape the prison of ourselves.

And in that escape, we find God.

  1. ‘My story is important not because it is mine, God knows, but because if I tell it anything like right, the chances are you will recognize that in many ways it is also yours… it is precisely through these stories in all their particularity, as I have long believed and often said, that God makes himself known to each of us more powerfully and personally‘ Frederick Buechner
